Pest Control in Tucson

Pest Control in Tucson

As a homeowner or renter, you enjoy the comfort of your own furnishings, a unique style and the shelter from outside elements. Namely, the Tucson heat and its insects.

Just as much as you enjoy a respite from the high temps, so do the many bugs here in Tucson.

When these insects begin to invade your personal space or comfort, they take on the name pests. And pests need to be managed.

That is where a need for the best pest control in Tucson comes in.

What pests are treated by Tucson pest control professionals?

Local pest control specialists assist with detecting and deterring home invasions by common Tucson pests. This includes termites, scorpions, spiders and more. In fact, some of the critters you are most likely to see can be found at our Tucson Bug Identifier.

Why hire Tucson Pest Management Professionals?

You want to protect your home, family, and pets against annoying pests. Your best bet is to hire specialists who know how to locate and eradicate bugs and rodents.

DIY pest control is unsafe. Options found on the internet involve mixing your own cocktails of chemicals. This can prove equally, if not more, harmful than the pests themselves. On top of that, they can also be ineffective, wasting your hard-earned money.

Keeping Your Home Pest-Free in the Winter

rodent free winter tucson

When it comes to winter, there are few places in the world better to be than Tucson. While the rest of the country is shoveling snow or battling ice storms, Southern Arizonans are making tee times at their local golf course, hiking one of our beautiful trails, or barbecuing in the backyard. When it comes to pest management, spring and summer are certainly peak times for activity. That said, winter months in the desert present some unique challenges of which we need to be aware.

Over the holidays, the desert climate lends itself to warm days, but because of the limited vegetation and lack of humidity, the evenings can see temperatures drop significantly. In turn, insects, rodents, and reptiles begin making significant changes to their habits that can make the area in and around homes vulnerable to invasion. Once the sun goes down, the evening climate can be just as extreme as our summer days with temperatures often dropping below freezing. Naturally, this leaves insects, spiders, reptiles, and rodents looking for alternative shelters to stay warm. Often, the place they find is inside our homes leaving us with new pest-control challenges.

PESTS AREN’T THE ONLY ONES CHANGING HABITS

Pests take the majority of the responsibility for cases we’ve seen, but they aren’t the only ones changing their habits making our homes more vulnerable. The change in temperature and holiday season presents many inviting circumstances for pests to take advantage of. Here are just are a few of the top risks you’ll face:

FIREWOOD

Whether you’re firing up the backyard firepit or live in one of the many Tucson homes with an indoor fireplace, the wood you’re using undoubtedly came from a nearby forest. Firewood is one of the easiest ways for pests to get inside. Fallen timber is a very common home for many insects such as ants, and termites. When storing firewood, be sure to fully inspect it and store outdoors to whatever extent possible. Also, be aware that wood piles can provide great cover for reptiles, rodents, and spiders, especially black widows and scorpions.

GUESTS IN THE HOME

It’s no secret how great of a place Arizona can be this time of year. This means, many of us will be hosting family and friends from out of town. Invited guests can unknowingly bring uninvited creatures into your home. So, to control against rodent intrusion, be sure to wash linens regularly and keep floors and countertops clean of debris and crumbs. This isn’t an accusation about the cleanliness of your dear Aunt Sue. Rather, it’s an indictment on the pests that like to travel and then wreak habit once they arrive.

Not to mention, this means significantly more foot traffic in and out of the home. It only takes a moment for a mouse or insect to make it’s way in and they often do unnoticed. Be sure to keep the doors closed as much as possible.

OPEN WINDOWS AND DOORS

On that note, by mid-October, many of us in Tucson have turned off the air conditioner and opened the windows to let in the fresh air. If you enjoy a nice Southern Arizona breeze in your house, be sure to install a storm gate or screen door. Also, inspect the outside of windows to ensure there are no rips or tares in the protective screens. Be aware of some of the gaps and crevices in doorways and install the necessary weather-stripping to seal it off.

STAYING PEST-FREE YEAR AROUND

These are just a few of the risks we face when it comes to dealing with pests over the winter. Many pests that were content being outside, are now seeking refuge from the cold. Snakes, mice, and small rodents will look for anyway they can to infiltrate your home to escape the frigid night time temperature and use your home to stay warm.

In short, most of us don’t mind a few “snow birds” when they head into town for the winter, but pests are never welcome. Even after every pest-control measure has been taken, your home can still be susceptible to any number of pest invasions. That’s why we recommend scheduling regular service with a reputable pest management company.

As temperatures drop, now is a great time to receive your free consultation with DSR Pest Management. commercial pest control service

It’s important to keep pests out of your home, but it’s even more important to keep pests out of your commercial kitchen. If you own a restaurant, the success of your business relies on maintaining a clean and pest-free kitchen. However, there are strict laws and regulations that restaurant owners must adhere to in regards to commercial pest control services. A commercial pest control company in Tucson can help keep your kitchen clean without violating local health code regulations. You can also keep pests at bay by following these food-safe pest control measures.

Keep the Kitchen Clean
The easiest way to keep pests out of the kitchen is to keep the kitchen clean. Mop floors and wipe down countertops and prep stations on a daily basis. Also, make sure everyone in the kitchen cleans up all spills right away.

Seal Points of Entry
Another easy way to keep pest out is to seal points of entry around the kitchen. Cover vents and drains with screens and make sure there are no gaps around windows and doors. Also, try not to leave unscreened windows and doors open. Your pest control provider can inspect the perimeter and address any weak points where pests can infiltrate your kitchen.

The Health Dangers of a Household Rodent Problem

Household rodents can do much more than cause a nuisance in your home. Certain rodents create health hazards that could affect you and your family. Keep reading to learn more about the potential health dangers of a rodent problem in your home:

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS)

Mice can easily spread HPS to humans. Although it is usually spread by a direct bite, you can also be exposed to it by touching an item that a mouse has contaminated with feces or urine. This infection has caused more than 500 deaths since 1993 and is more dangerous for children than it is for adults. Even if you never see an actual mouse, you could still be at risk for contracting HPS.

Rat Bite Fever

Rat bite fever causes health issues like chills, fever, vomiting, headache, and joint pain. It might also lead to a rash on the hands and feet. Without the proper treatment, this disease could cause permanent damage. You can contract this disease through skin contact or a bite or scratch from a rat. The symptoms might not manifest for up to 3 months after the initial contact. If you think you have a rat problem, it is very important to call a pest control company to take care of it before you get sick.

Leptospirosis

A lot of animals carry these bacteria and might transfer it to humans. If you have broken skin or touch the saliva of an infected animal, you could be exposed to it. Leptospirosis can lead to a wide range of serious health issues including jaundice, vomiting, muscle pain, fever, and severe abdominal pain. Without treatment, leptospirosis can lead to liver failure, respiratory issues, kidney damage, meningitis, and death.

DSR Pest Management, Inc. is here to help you with all of your Tucson pest control needs. Whether you have a rodent issue or termites, our experienced crew will come to your home to get rid of these pests before they can cause more damage. To learn more, visit us online or call (520) 790-7759.

Rodent Control: Debunking the Myths

rodent control

Pest control companies in Tucson get a high amount of calls about rodents. A lot of homeowners believe myths about these pests, which can hinder the removal process. Use this guide to learn the truth behind these rodent control myths so you know exactly what to do to get these rodents out of your home:

Myth: All Mice are the Same

There are actually many kinds of mice that might infest your home. A lot of people call the exterminator complaining about house mice when they are actually dealing with something like a deer mouse or a shrew. Call for professional help and let the exterminators figure out what kind of pest is in your home.

Myth: Mice and Rats Only Come Out at Night

Although this is typically true in the wild, rats and mice tend to become more active when they do not feel as threatened. If they are in the shelter of your home, they might come out more often during the day trying to find food.

Myth: Rats and Mice Only Gather in Dirty Places

Mice and rats are trying to find safe places where they have easy access to food. If you have rats or mice in your home, it does not mean that you are dirty. It just means that you have something to offer these rodents.
